Installing operating systems (.img files) to USB on macOS

Sometimes, you need to install directly an image to a SD card or a micro SD card, here is a reminder on how to do it on macOS

Starting from the terminal, they are a few simple steps to do. If you are comfortable with the command line, you can write the image to a SD card without any additional software. Open a terminal, then run:

Identify the disk on which you wish to flash the disk image with the following command line :

$ diskutil list

Finally, launch the command

$ sudo dd bs=1m if=path_of_your_image.img of=/dev/rdiskn

Remember to replace n with the number corresponding to the USB device!
